Randburg Region has excellent
B&B’s, guest houses and lodges located within its boundaries
reaching from Northgate on the north to Cresta in the South.
The east is bounded by Blairgowrie and the west by
Northcliff and Linden. Some are Bed and Breakfast, some
include or are exclusively self-catering and others have
conference facilities. The excellence is seen in the growth
in the number and variety of accommodation establishments
available to the traveller. Quality, service and personal
attention have been maintained over the years. This has
brought back a high proportion of repeat visitors. The
location, as you will see, appeals to a variety of
travellers.
Randburg, on the north-western edge of Johannesburg , is
bounded by the N2 Highway and is now a suburb of that
Metropolis. It was incorporated originally as a town on its
own with 32 suburbs in 1959. Since then it has been
amalgamated in the Metropolis of Johannesburg, a
cosmopolitan city of more than 5 million people and a centre
of finance and commerce not only to South Africa, but also
the African continent.
For the businessman Randburg is a more cost-effective place
to stay than neighbouring areas, while the accommodation
establishments of choice are of excellent quality. Within a
short distance are all the business opportunities and
conference centres, such as Sandton Convention Centre where
exhibitions and major conferences are held at frequent
intervals. The larger exhibitions are held at The Dome or
NASREC. Nasrec is host to the Rand Show held each year
around Easter time. Once again lodging in the Randburg
Region makes good sense.
Meeting places and restaurants abound with the better known
ones in the local Brightwater Commons, the Northgate Mall,
Cresta Shopping Centre, Sandton City, Hyde Park Shopping
Centre, Rosebank Mall, Fourways Crossing and the trendy
Melville.
Tourists will find plenty of shopping choice within these
places ranging from the flea market to the haut couture.
Places worthy of visiting are Monte Casino with its Casino,
Tuscan Village themed restaurants and shops and its unique
Bird Park. There one will find theatres and the exceptional
Teatro. The Civic Theatre in Johannesburg is only 20 minutes
drive from Randburg and down that way is The Constitutional
Court, The Apartheid Museum and Gold Reef City -- a
reconstructed mine town with visits into the old mine, gold
pouring and for the kids, the amusement park with its scary
rides. In that vein a visit to The Cradle of Humankind and
the Sterkfontein caves will enthral all visitors, young and
old. Near there is the Rhino and Lion Park, which
complements the larger Krugerdorp Game Reserve and the more
specialised Lion Park near Lanseria. The Crocodile Farm and
the Snake Park are in the same region.
For the boater the Vaal Dam is in the south and on the north
is Hartbeespoort Dam within a mountain range which sports a
cableway offering magnificent views.
A trip to Pretoria will take the visitor to many historical
sights including the Voortrekker Monument, the Herbert
Baker-designed Parliament Buildings set in beautiful
surroundings, the zoological gardens and the Paul Kruger
House just to name a few.
.
For the academically inclined there is MINTEK which is a
research centre of note in Randburg. The University of
Johannesburg is an amalgamation of well established academic
institutions and the University of the Witwatersrand is in
the same vicinity. The Magistrates Court in Randburg and the
Landbank also lie within the boundaries and are reached
easily from any of the accommodation establishments. For
those who need to attend hospitals or consult specialists,
one will find the Olivedale Clinic, Sandton Clinic and
Morningside Clinic as well as the Eye Clinic in Cresta and
Eye Hospital in Sandton in the area. It makes sense for the
family of a patient who is convalescing, to stay in the
area.
Another type of healing can be found at the Christ Embassy
Healing School, while for the religious most denominations
are catered for including the well-known Rhema Church.
Gardens and wildlife can be found at the Botanical Gardens
at Emmarentia and Roodepoort, while the Johannesburg Zoo is
world class as is the Military Museum. For the sports-minded
there are a number of gymnasiums in the area as well as the
the Randburg Sports Complex. A Park-and-Ride facility for
events like the Soccer World Cup and Rugby and Cricket
events is available which accesses all the major stadiums in
Gauteng. The premier cricket centre of The Wanderers Cricket
Ground is on one side while the Tennis Centre at Standard
Bank Arena is close by. Golf is well provided for with
competition courses at Randpark, Houghton and seven others
within easy driving distance.
Entertainment at night ranges from the restaurants in the
atmospheric Brightwater Commons to Johannesburg Theatre,
Theatres at Monte Casino and others like the Barnyard at
Cresta and Fourways. There are several cinema complexes and
bowling alleys to enlarge the entertainment horizons.
It is hoped that you will feel that your stay in The
Randburg Region was really worth while and that you will
return. |
